Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.

Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist’s goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

Please note: ATHLETIC THERAPY IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR DIRECT BILLING.

Kyle’s unique physiotherapy journey started after graduating from the International Academy of Physiotherapy in Holland in 2005. Since that time, he has gained certifications in manual and manipulative therapy (‘popping’ joints), trigger point dry needling (deep muscle release), acupuncture (Eastern style), and many other specific forms of therapy, as well as a Masters degree in Health Management. He has brought his extensive experience in both the private and public healthcare world together to create an effective and modern approach to physical therapy (no buzzy machines here). With a combination of hands-on therapy and the right exercises, the treatment process is goal oriented and focuses on fixing the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. And you can expect to learn something along the way as education is a big part of the recovery process. Kyle believes that good physiotherapy truly is a ‘Joint Effort’ between the client and the therapist and motivates clients to take an active role in their recovery.

I am very excited to be joining Joint Effort Physiotherapy as the resident Registered Massage Therapist (RMT.)

After graduating from McMaster University with an Honors Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology (BSc Kin) and completing my professional designation as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS,) I decided to attend Sutherland Chan School of Massage Therapy to further enhance my understanding of the human body and its capabilities.

Originally, the goal of becoming an RMT was to improve my own skills as a strength and conditioning coach, when in fact, my experience as a coach and working with various populations helped me become a more effective RMT. I fell in love with the field of rehabilitation and have been able to combine it seamlessly with my passion of strength and conditioning.

After a few years working at Therapy Lounge, a Toronto based massage therapy clinic, I was able to develop a uniquely effective style of treating that targets the source of injury/ pain while also calming your nervous system and creating a relaxing experience.

When you come for a treatment, expect a combination of clinical rehabilitation and holistic wellness. Upon arrival, each patient receives a thorough physical assessment and tailored treatment plan while also appreciating the whole person.

Our nervous system play a massive role in our ability to recover, so I combine the goal-oriented style of rehabilitation with a serene environment to help you relax and heal your injuries.

But it doesn’t end on the table, after your treatment, you will receive custom self-care stretches and exercises to integrate into your life and get you back to pain free movement.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with other health professionals at Joint Effort Physiotherapy and look forward to seeing you on my table.
